I’ve been thinking about polyphony a lot lately. I can patch up a polyphonic part on my system, but it’s a bit of a mish mash and it uses a lot of the rig for a single part. Since I’ve finished my techno system, I figured something polyphonic would be a good option for my next project.
I considered building a fixed architecture synth, possibly even with a keyboard. I dreamed, for a moment, of building Deckard’s Dream, but it’s really expensive. I decided, for some reason, to design and build a modular polyphonic synth. I’m familiar with the Eurorack format and I have a fair bit of Eurorack already so it makes sense. To me at least.
I’ll be designing it from scratch and have decided to use the reproduction CEM chips being made in Latvia by Alfa (hence the name), so it will be fully analogue. Well there may be a digital chip in the Midi to CV converter, but that’s it!
Update: In addition to the first concept illustration above, I’ve added some of my first sketches from my notebook. Mostly in case I lose the notebook!
