For some time, I’ve lusted after the Intellijel Metropolis sequencer. It’s a really unique way to sequence and I’ve seen people get amazing results with them. But I don’t really buy modules and the Metropolis is WAY expensive!
What I didn’t know was that Metropolis was based on an old sequencer for the Roland System 100m format; the M185. So when I learned that RYK, the guy responsible for the original M185 was doing a DIY Eurorack version, I had to get involved.
It’s a lovely full kit with everything needed for the module and a preflashed microcontroller. I grabbed some replacement buttons from eBay because, you know, red and blue??? No thanks.
I built the main board first – nice and simple and the PCB was very nice to work with.
The control board was very nicely laid out with plenty of space, so a joy to solder!
Finally, I slotted the two boards together and tested it. Fully functional first try! I popped it in my little case with just a couple of bits to really get to know it.
This is an AMAZING sequencer! I absolutely love it and can’t wait to get to know it better.
