Turing Machine MkII

I knew I needed some sort of sequencing in the rack and was very drawn to the idea of “random”. For years, I’ve been using random sequence generators in software to create interesting patterns and really wanted that capability in my modular.

Having watched one of Robin Vincent’s videos from his excellent “Molten Modular” vlog, I realised that the Music Thing Modular Turing Machine MkII would do exactly this and was available as a DIY project.

This was the trickiest thing I’d built so far, but still relatively simple. I managed to screw up some of the headers where the expanders would connect, but as I had no plans to build the expanders, I didn’t worry about this too much!

After building and calibrating the module, it worked perfectly. This thing is amazing. It uses a shift register IC to generate random voltages, which can be constrained to a range and looped over 2-32 steps. Instant techno basslines/leads!
