Rack Plumber

A while back, I found some old network cables in cupboard and came up with an awesome invention. A couple of days later, I discovered that not only had I not invented it, but someone else (Shay Shezifi of the fantastic Plum Audio) had actually implemented it, and done a much better job than I had in mind.

Edit: I have since discovered that Doepfer got there even earlier ?

Edit #2: Intellijel also made a 1u version. It’s seems every fucker and his dog has already invented my invention ?

What’s more, Pusherman had the PCBs and panels, so I grabbed a pair. The idea is just to connect two cases using 8-stranded Cat5 cable using RJ45 connectors wired to standard mono jacks.

Shay’s implementation includes LEDs behind the jacks to indicate where the signal is going to (they’re switched off when you plug something in).

Super quick and easy build. Just a handful of LEDs/resistors as well as the connections.

So now I can make 8 connections between my two cases with a single network cable. Sweet.
