Triple Sloths

For a while now, I’ve had my eye on Non Linear Circuits and the crazy, chaos based circuits Andrew designs. He’s a super clever guy, who has studied chaos extensively alongside electronics and brought many chaotic systems to the world of modular.

I decided to get some chaos into my system and the obvious place to start was NLC’s popular Triple Sloths module. It contains three separate slow chaos circuits which each generate movement around a pair of strange attractors. There’s also a difference rectifier which combines all of the circuits to get even more chaotic.

The circuit was very nice to build. Excellent quality PCBs and very nicely laid out with all 0805 passive components, so a walk in the park compared to the 0603 and 0402 stuff I’ve done recently.

Put the whole thing together in a couple of hours. I only had one issue; I accidentally reversed one of the power diodes/rectifiers (which protect the module from reversed connections), so it didn’t fire up when I plugged it in. I instantly knew where the problem was – I’d been unsure about the power diodes as I’d had to order a substitute, so I just removed them as they’re optional anyway. I noticed after looking at the photos that I’d made a mistake and replaced them the right way round!

This is a crazy module, so useful for slow, chaotic modulation. Definitely given me a taste for more chaos ?
